Karl Pretzer

With a Bachelor of Social Science and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University, Karl is dedicated to supporting holistic well-being and personal growth. He is EMDR-trained and integrates art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness. and yoga techniques into his therapeutic approach.

Karl’s passion for energy work is reflected in his ongoing journey to become a Reiki Master, having already attained the Reiki II Practitioner level. Additionally, as a 200-hour certified yoga teacher, he values the mind-body connection and draws upon yoga principles to enhance healing and self-awareness.

Specializing in work with men, adolescents, and children ages eight and above, Karl offers a client-centered, insight-oriented, and individually tailored approach to therapy. He frequently incorporates mindfulness and yoga techniques for those seeking holistic care, and addresses a range of challenges, including sports performance issues. Committed to fostering an inclusive environment, Karl works with members of the LGBTQ+ community and is comfortable exploring matters of faith, religion, or spirituality. He also focuses on trauma—ranging from childhood trauma to sexual abuse—helping clients understand how formative experiences influence present-day patterns and triggers. By guiding individuals to reshape negative self-talk, strengthen self-esteem, and establish healthy boundaries, Karl empowers them to gain deeper insight into how their past shapes their current lives and find freedom from trauma responses.

Prior to returning to higher education, Karl enjoyed a successful career as a soccer coach, further demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning. During this time, he had the privilege of developing many players and helping them reach their full potential at the next levels. He also had the honor of serving as a goalkeeper coach for the Midwest Region for the Illinois Olympic Development Program and as a coach with the nationally ranked Eclipse Select Soccer Club. Throughout his coaching journey, Karl earned several prestigious credentials from the United States Soccer Federation, including a USSF National "B" License, a USSF National Goalkeeper License, and a USSF National Youth License, along with a Premier Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches. This dedication to continuous professional development has enriched Karl’s leadership and teamwork skills, which he now employs to foster a collaborative style in all aspects of his work.
