Dominik Kannenwischer
Dominik is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who earned his master's degree from Wheaton College Graduate School. He has a wealth of experience in the field, having specialized in a trauma-specific treatment known as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) early on in his career. Dominik's approach to therapy is client-centered, insight-oriented, and attachment-based when working with individuals, while using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) when working with couples.
Using his methodology, Dominik helps clients explore their childhood experiences and connect them with present-day patterns or triggers that may be occurring in their daily lives. He works with clients from all walks of life and specializes in issues related to trauma, anxiety, relationship struggles, ADHD, grief, and life transitions. Dominik helps clients work on and correct their negative self-talk, low self-esteem, and self-care-related issues. Clients may seek his help in finding their voice, learning to set healthy boundaries, gaining insight into how their past influences them, and becoming free from their trauma responses today.
Dom brings much experience and diverse perspectives to his work. As a German immigrant, he has had to navigate cultural differences and learn to adapt to new environments. He has also served in the military, which has given him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by those in the military community. He is a husband and father of two boys, which has taught him the importance of connection, communication, play, and wonder. In addition to his professional experiences, he has pursued various personal interests, including being a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete, woodworker, musician, baker, and gardener. These pursuits have given him a deep appreciation for the importance of physical and mental well-being and an understanding of the challenges involved in pursuing one's passions.
Dominik is a curious and empathetic professional who creates a safe and supportive space for clients. He collaborates with them to identify goals and develop actionable plans, helping them thrive. Dominik's diverse background and experiences make him a valuable asset to anyone seeking support in their personal or professional lives.
As Brené Brown once stated, "Being vulnerable is the ultimate act of courage." Dominik's work with clients is a testament to this philosophy.
